Our 1st e-book: “From Darkness to Light”

Cartabianca Publishing releases its first e-book “From Darkness to Light – Marine Byssus and Chiara Vigo”. It is available in iBooks format on Apple iBookstore and ePub plus mobi versions on over twenty distributors of digital publishing in Italy and abroad.

The story of byssus is unique. It is about filaments produced by the largest mollusc in the Mediterranean, and Chiara Vigo, a Sardinian from Sant’Aticoco, the last Master Weaver left in the world capable of creating it. Byssus is a precious thread which can neither be bought nor sold; worn by high-priests and kings, as told by the Bible since ancient times. An artistic biography that reads like a fairytale, it is actually the story of a past that has remained miraculously intact.

Written by Susanna Lavazza, with photographs by Nelly Dietzel and Roberto Rossi, the e-book is available in Italian with an English edition translated by Mark Andrew Grace.

Cartabianca chooses Stealth

For the distribution of their e-books – except those sold through the Apple iBookstore (for which we signed a contract directly with Apple) – Cartabianca Publishing has chosen to use the Stealth platform by Simplicissimus Book Farm.

Through this agreement, Cartabianca e-books will be available from all online bookstores in Italy, as well as from Amazon’s Kindle Store. The following is a list of the main online stores where you can find our e-books:

From today Cartabianca Publishing is one of the few Italian publishers to be officially authorized by Apple to publish eBooks (electronic books) in the so-called iBookstore. The bureaucratic procedures for companies not residing in the U.S. are quite complicated, but now we are finally able to create interactive eBooks that can be purchased, downloaded from the Apple Store and read directly on your iPad.

We have started working on a few series of eBooks and we can reveal that among them there will be short but complete guides on trails and routes for walkers and cyclists in Italy, another will be devoted specifically for those who want to change their life in Italy (for now we can not reveal more), a third series will show the prehistoric monuments of Europe and a fourth series will consider various aspects of civil aviation in Italy.

Demo software totem touchscreen

At the Etruscan-Roman Museum in Trevignano Romano (Rome, Italy) they use our multimedia touchscreen kiosks, equipped with one of our most solid elegant chassis. The computer running the system is a trusty Apple Mac Mini, but the real heart of the installation is our custom software, which includes multiple audio streams, 360-degree objects and panoramas, photos, movies and an interactive game.

To give you an idea of what we can do with an installation in a museum, we made a short film (about 4 minutes long), illustrating the main features of our software. Enjoy it!

Lake Bracciano Consortium

After winning the contract to build a new website for the Lake Bracciano Consortium and several months hard work our “creation” was officially presented to local mayors and officials during a convivial evening on board the m.v. Sabazia II this summer.

This new site aims to provide information not only on the schedule of the Sabazia II, managed by the Consortium, but also on all the tourist events and businesses associated with the municipalities of Lake Bracciano. Among the special features of this new website are:

CMS system allowing the staff of the Consortium to update any part of the website
Real-time sailing times and availability for the Sabazia II
Photo gallery with multiple albums
360 degree panoramic movies of the pier and upper/lower decks of the ship
Section “tell us about the lake” giving visitors the chance to publish articles
Online polls
Local weather forecasts and automatic content translation in 7 languages
All the pages are XHTML Strict and CSS validated
